Ci Zhang
張慈
Ci Zhang is an award-winning producer, speaker, writer, and filmmaker. She was one of five featured artists in Bumming in Beijing: The Last Dreamers (1990) which broke new ground in Chinese documentary cinema and exposed the brutal effects and aftermath of the 1989 Tiananmen Square revolution. This documentary is currently part of Special Collections at Harvard University library, Stanford's Green Library. Ci Zhang recently directed and produced The Faith in Ailao Mountain (2013), which played at Stanford's Li Ka Shing Learning and Knowledge Center, won an award at The World's Independent Film Festival, Chinese American Film Festival (CAFF) and San Francisco International New Concept Film Festival, it has screened at universities nationwide。 Ci Zhang is recently directing and producing a series of documentary movie Silicon Valley Chinese. This documentary spotlights Chinese entrepreneurs and professors in the Silicon Valley, presenting the untold stories of each person's journey to America to pursue dreams that were deemed impossible in China. The first episode "The Power" has just won an award at the Davis International Films Festival.
In the past five years, Ci Zhang has focused on investing and producing Hollywood feature films, including investing in graduation works of American Film Institute students. Finding Vega, which she invested and produced, won the Best Short Film Award at the NYC Independent Film Festival and the Best Short Film Award at the China-US Film Festival, and was selected in Cannes Film Festival Youth Short Film Section; In Your Light, Do We See Light was selected for the Tribeca Film Festival. Ci Zhang has watched more than 20,000 movies, especially Jordan Peele's new sci-fi horror film "No", the multiverse-playing "Emergency Universe", and the latest work in the "Jurassic Park" series "Jurassic" "The World", "Dune", "The Wandering Earth", "The Meg III", Ci Zhang will serve as a judge of the first "Shenzhen Science Fiction Film Festival" in 2024 and a judge of the "Science Fiction Film Unit of the North American International Film Festival" in Seattle
張慈曾在雲南大學、Foothillcollege和史丹佛大學 Continue Education 學習劇本寫作;為她拍攝和製作的五 部紀錄片編寫並創作了劇本。 由張慈編劇的《哀牢山的信仰》獲得「世界獨立電影 節」「最佳家庭故事獎」;紀錄片《米格爾詩篇》由張 慈與張琴合作編寫,獲得了首屆國際原創IP電影節「最 佳紀念獎”,中美電影節的“金天使提名獎”,舊金山 國際新概念電影節的“最佳人物故事獎”,以及北美國 際電影節的提名。 紀錄片《矽谷千禧年變遷》記錄了矽穀不同產業的10位人 士從2000年至2015年的生活變化。劇本由張慈和團隊共 同創作。
